hi buddies,
In windows we can kill a running process by pressing alt+cntl+del. And also we can kill the process in UNIX using process number. But how to kill in mainframes?.
What I mean to ask you is, how to stop a running job in mainframes.
regards

Hi tvmkishore,
To my understanding you can either put the job on HOLD or you can PURGE the job which you want to stop.
Just let me know if any other solution exists.
Hope this helps. |

Hi,
You can also use 'C' option to cancel a running job.

Hi all,
Let me add some points.
we can stop running Mainframe job by either typing C or P before the job.
Difference being typing C will cancel the job but the job remains in the spool. But typing P will purge the job leaving no mark of the same in the spool.
Thanks,
Mani |

Hi tvmkishore,
If you cancel that job, your session will expire i.e. your connection gets disconnected with the message "System completion code was found 222".
Hope this helps. |

Hi tvmkishore,
You can logon to your system for the next time. There won't be any difficulties.
I strongly suggest not to practice on live mainframes.
Hope this helps. |

Hi,
All the information above specifies how a job can be cancelled or purged in online. Can anyone tell me if the job can be purged through batch by submitted another job??
SARBCH is used to retrieve the information from SAR, likewise is there any way for SPOOL.
Please advice. |

Hello,
If you have permission to delete the jobs, you should be able to do this using sdsf in batch (there several topics about batch sdsf in the forum).
If you find a batch sdsf execution and have questions, post what you found and the question(s) about it. |

Sorry JS,
I was answering the OP. It's a good idea to open your own thread if you have a problem; avoids confusion. Also - memo to MMWIFE - read the posts before you reply. |
