Hello.

I am getting the following error when I run the IMS gen validate program in IMS v15.2. IBM sez the Message was deleted in v14. icon_rolleyes.gif I am pretty weak with IMS and know enough to get through the IVPs and do some simple maintenance tasks. I am the only Syspro in our organization, so I also have to act as DBA and Operations as well. The weird thing is that this statement worked in v10, v11, v12, v13 and v14.

Does anyone know what this "deleted message" means?

DFS3577A NO VALID HIERARCHY EXISTS FOR THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT(S):

Code:
          782              TERMINAL  NAME=LAPPC666,OPTIONS=(TRANRESP,NOCOPY),          +
                               TYPE=3270-A02,SIZE=(24,80)
          783                NAME  IBMUSER

We are running v15.2 DB/DC.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Google led me to this:

www.ibm.com/docs/en/ims/15.1.0?topic=SSEPH2_15.1.0/com.ibm.ims15.doc.msgs/common/ims_messages_deleted_15.html

Says your DFS3577A message and others:

LGEN messages deleted
The following messages were removed with the removal of support for large system definitions (LGEN).

No idea what that means

Yes, thank you, Pete. I think I mentioned this information was in a doc APAR for IMS v14 and came with the ServerPac and was also mentioned in the v14 and v15 documentation as well.

Since the a$$h@!3s at IBM have removed all documentation and pdfs up to v13 and I didn't save any docs from v12 or v13, I have no way of looking up the message. You would think that they would have removed it from the pre-check output in v15 but no... it is still there. I was able to resolve the issue, but it is really annoying when you get an RC 08 and a cryptic message that you can't look up.

I was hoping that someone might still have docs either Book Manager or pdfs from an older version of IMS that they could share. Exhaustive searches on Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo yielded nothing useful and it looks like any and all reference to old documentation has been scrubbed from the net.

I guess I will have to open a use ticket on software Excell and see if someone can tell me where to find it of if there is some kind of equivalent message in the current docs that they can point me to. I should have done this first but more often than not it turns into 48 hours of playing 20 questions.
I really hate stuff like this because it is a real time burner, not something I can afford. Add a few simple lines to the gen that should have taken 30 minutes turns into a full day fire drill. icon_mad.gif

Thanks, and if anyone out there has any pre-IMS v14 documentation they could share, I would really appreciate it. I would like to have it just in case this happens again.

Bit weird that they've scrubbed ALL traces of the message like that.

I had a sniff around with this search tool
www.etools.ch/

And found this but can't see that message in there, and the V14 said it had been deleted

Hi, Pete.
Thanks for the tip and the search engine aggregate. It will come in handy.

I downloaded the zipped v13 PDFs and searched the message volumes, the Admin guide and the System Definition guide as well. I was unable to find any references to the message.
I have opened a ticket with SoftwareXcel but have not received a reply yet.

It's not like I need it now as I have already fixed the problem. I am just curious as to why I cannot find documentation below v13 and why the message is still being issued during a v15.2 gen. Also, I am pretty sure they will respond with something like "that version is no longer supported." To which I will have to repeat to them (two times or more) that the message was issued from a v15.2 gen. icon_rolleyes.gif
