Hi all,

I've had a look around the manuals and can't find it. Is there any way of selecting members in a PDS or PDSE via wildcard, instead of singly, in IEBCOPY?

As background, 'we' have a batch refresh for our executables for our test environments, and naturally I'm taking a backup of the previous versions (JIC) as a part of the process. The backup run as 4 IEBCOPYs to flat files and ADRDSSU backup/delete of those flat files. But our proc and JCL libraries are somewhat bloated, and I could easily select a smaller number of items to be 'backed up', if I could use a couple of wildcards to do so.

IEBCOPY doesn't seem to offer the wildcard option. I have done a number of pre-IEBCOPY Rexxes, which can create a large input SYSIN with all the individual SELECT statements, in some other processes. Either by reading the directory directly, or using LMMLIST in batch ISPF. But both methods seem a bit over the top.

I can certainly leave it as it is, but my OCD keeps telling me that backing up 15000 members when I only need 1700 is a bad thing... (or 24500/3500)

I don't know which release of z/OS included it, but COPYGROUP can be used to select wildcarded members. It is listed in the 2.1 Utilities manual.

Robert, my apologies.
As soon as I saw COPYGROUP, I realised that I'd already worked this out a few years ago!!! Admittedly, I couldn't locate (in the manual) any examples of wild-carding, but as I already had a working example happening...

And I was too embarrassed to respond until now!

Thanks!
