Hi,
Nowadays, the Job openings for mainframes have reduced drastically especially in India. Is it the problem with the world IT market remaining Dull or migrating from mainframes to Technologies like SAP is a reason for downfall of mainframes.
Please post your ideas so that i can plan my future career based on tht.
Thanks,
Akash |

not wise IMO to use forum replies to plan a career
anything anybody could say would be just pure speculation ...
the question has been asked and UNanswered quite a few times,
usually resulting in a waste of time for everybody
anyway, just to add a bit of noise...
all depends on where You want to stand in the ranks of an IT shop ...
not many people have the overall view of things
everything is getting more and more cubicle oriented
so what happens in Your cubicle stays there and most of the time it will be very independent on the platform
the only ones concerned with the <platform> will be the <system> people
the application people will be concerned <only>
with the proper business requirements ( for the design )
and the software used for the implementation ( and that might be platform independent ) |

Anyone who can be deceived by such a statement ought not to be in IT in the first place. |

Hi Gary,
computer programmers is expected to increase by 12 percent from 2010 to 2020 but what about the demand for mainframe skills in Job market in the near future.
Thanks,

I have no idea. But mathematically it averages out to about 1.2 percent increase yearly from 2010 to 2020. The company I am in now has about 2,200 in IT and mostly mainframe. |

UK IT jobs, especially mainframe, have been decimated here in the UK over the last few years, mainly as a result of outsourcing to India. Maybe there's fewer jobs left to transfer now
A search of the global jobsites might give an indication if the outsourcing work is moving elsewhere. |
