Hi,
Please let me know which all transaction result in currency getting lost in IDMS.
I have some example like Commit will release all currency. But I am looking for a complete list of transactions. Request help.
The same question was posted here. So TS has searched at least a little. |

most of the people here do not have the possibility to look at them
ant that reduces the number of people who can help |

If the download has the answer to what PFA means then I am going to have to wait for someone to post in clear English. I am not going to trust a download on an open forum from someone that I do not know. |

IF X X NONE
FIND/OBTAIN DB-KEY UPDATE ALL
FIND/OBTAIN CURRENT X X X UPDATE ALL

Yes, that would be my guess too - it's commonly used around here. |

Neither Wikipedia nor thefreedictionary had that definition and they went on for screenfuls.Ergo - non-standard terminology! |

Hello,
It is bad enough we wade thru loads of non-standard terminology - now we'll get deeper into non-standard acronyms/abbreviations.
How tough could it really be to just type the words. . .
I suspect just another way to demonstrate "coolness" or that one is "with it" . . . . |

I had assumed that it meant "Porridge For All", and that a software engineer was going to show his appreciation in a substantial fashion |

Just to add a little spice to the topic - back in 1990/91/92 I was working on an IDMS project where we had to save our currency on occasion as IDMS could suddenly lose it all by its ownsome for no apparent reason. Probably the reason was that it ran out of nooks and crannies to store the info. Probably fixed a long time ago. |

Ha ha, yes sorry - I posted something misleading, so "removed" it for review.
A COMMIT will in fact maintain currency for SET, AREA and RUN UNIT whilst releasing all locks except for current.
A COMMIT ALL will nullify the currency table, while releasing all locks.

For the TS:
An ERASE [SELECTIVE, ALL] will:
- retain currency for area and run unit
- lose currency for all record types involved in the erase.
You can thus:
- retrieve NEXT or PRIOR within the area in which the erased record participated
- retrieve NEXT or PRIOR (or OWNER) within the set in which the erased record participated, since NEXT,PRIOR (and OWNER) currencies are preserved for sets from which the record was erased.
On a (slightly) humourous note, the favourite way to lose currency is to perform an area sweep and within that sweep do some set navigation within the same area and neglect to use FIND CURRENT prior to continuing the sweep.
It has to be done - in order to learn - and then it has to be not done again !
Cheers Rob |
