Hi Carol,
Welcome to IBMMAINFRAMES.com
I think i can give you couple of inputs, i have used CA Platinum suite and some BMC products,
Missing Features, i thought
DB2OP
Tool to identify restrictive statuses of tablespaces in multiple databases and build respective utility statements and in correct order. For example tablespace can be in COPY and Checkpending status at the same time. So, the tool should be intelligent enough to build the check first and copy second. And DBA can decide in the beginning whether to repair all TS with the corresponding repair statements or run corresponding utility on it.
At that time, i was using CA platinum suite in that, Utility Manager/ Object Manger/Database Analyzer did not help. since using Utility Manager we can generate mass utility statements based on the naming conventions not on the restrictive status and Database Analyzer selects tablespaces based on conditions but those were basically for tablespace maintainence purposes. Both these applications reuse the same panels where you select the utility but to fit my scenario, the program should pick the utility based on the restrictive status.
So, since it wasn't available i had to write one in my previous shop, i called it 'DB2OP' . It saved huge amount of time for me everyday.
CA Detector should have included this feature.
CA Detector is a very good real-time monitoring tool. It could have an additional feature to present information using filter based on a particular correlation id/jobname, plan, package on a particular time period. Currently it just consolidates all the information in a particular pre-set time-bucket(like 6hrs) and we can drill-down from plan-->package-->statements. I thought, since it already has all the required information, why can't it present it in requested specific time, jobname/correlation id, plan/package manner.
Work-around for the above is, ask the app. team to test in a specific time bucket so only that team uses the plans and things like that. If this is not possble, we can use CA-Insight .
Till now Information presented in CA-Insight cannot be saved to a dataset, it would be really nice if that was possible.
Option to ask whether to create Exception Tables or not, when trying build CHECKDATA utility, its missing in both the products CA RC/Query & BMC Catalog Manager.
HDDL in BMC Catalog Manager something similar is not available in RC/Query
In RC/Query, while you are looking for an object, when you give SQL in Command, it will give you SQL which it ran to get the data from DB2 Catalog similar is not available in BMC Catalog Manager.
In ISQL in platinum, you can type an sql statement and type EXPLAIN in command, it will give you the access path details, that is handy, similar is not available in BMC.
That's all i can remember for now.
I hope it was helpful and if any of the above is already available in the tools and i didn't know about it, please let me know.
Thanks,
Sushanth |
