Hi,
Can anyone explain me the relation between MSU and MIPS???
As far as i have understood MSU is consumption per hour and MIPS is the CP Capacity, so how can we relate MSU to MIPS.
As per IBM website it provides the MSU/MIPS ratio for all zSeries and older Machines.
Service Unit can be related to MSU as they both fall under same category.
For E.G.> A job consumes 10000 SU/CPU Sec, this can be converted to the MSU Utilized, but can we say how many MIPS are consumed??
So can anyone explain me the relation between MSU and MIPS. |

The relationship between MSU and MIPS is determined by IBM. The ratio varies by machine as well as number of engines on the machine -- there is no one single value, not even for a given machine.

The answer to your question is ZERO. MIPS is not a measurement that can be applied to an individual job, as it has meaning only when talking about the entire processor -- disk drives, CPU, tape drives, channels, and everything else. Do not think a MIPS number has meaning for anything other than an entire machine -- and IBM doesn't even use MIPS numbers for their machines any more so why be using an obsolete concept? |
