Hi every one,
I searched the forum thoroughly but i did not get answer.
Could any one one help me what kind of jobs are done in production environment .
How do we submit batch jobs , how we monitor jobs , where we get success and failure messages and how we retrieve the already failed jobs and by which tool.
Please reply to my question as i am preparing for Ibm mainframe interview and not able to qualify where i am asked these kind of questions.
If possible quote few examples also.
My apology i posted in wrong section, request to moderator , please put in right segment.

I think that your question is rather a general one. Unfortunately running a production environment can be quite site specific.
You ask about which tools ....... That depends on the tools that are are installed at a site. For instance job submission and monitoring can be accomplished using manual monitoring, TWS (aka OPC), CA-7, Control-M, Zeke. The error notification process is again site specific, some places I've worked there is a call from ops during the night when a critical job has abended, other sites it is left until the morning when production support arrive for the day.
There are no hard and fast rules for this.
When I conduct interviews for JCLM's (support staff) I have been far more interested in what they have done in the past, how they reply to questions regarding the resolution of abends/errors. In my opinion, being a JCLM is a lot about experience, motivation and also just as important how well someone new would integrate into my team.
But, the next reply to this thread could be totally opposite to what I have said based on that posters own experiences and views.

I'm not very sure what exactly your sentences are asking about?

Hello,

For which job(s)?
You need to provide more specific questions. If you do not already have a reasonably good understanding of the genereic items you mentioned, the forum is probably not going to be very much help.
We can help with many kinds of specific technical requests, but trying to explain the operation of a generic production datacenter is beyond the scope of the forum.
Thanks Expat ,Anuj and Dick , You have given very good explanation that i was looking for .
It's good to see reply from Moderators to a new user.
And i apologize that i was not clear in my question .
Actually I am preparing for Mainframe interviews :
Someone suggested Me to opt either Development or Production Role in Mainframe , not the testing one , and he explained me Production as :
"Whenever Batch jobs are submitted on mainframe server through tools like Endevor , then there are chances that some Jobs may get fail or not submitted successfully , then an Engineer (from Production Environment ) who monitors the job(s) , Pulls or retrieves that job(s) with endevor, analyzes the code and reasons for failure , give them a fix (temporary or permanent) and re-submitted the failed job. In production Environment Engineer at L1 (Level1) support may get calls from users or client regarding a problem and they can generate a Ticket with severity Level and pass it on to Development for permanent fix ." Now the above information provided to me from a working professional , i have posted here , Please tell me is it true , if not please correct .
So i am looking for these basic questions and answers , if possible please suggest me some websites from where i can get these information and do not waste your time , Though a like this forum very much.
Sorry for a big post .
Yes sir , I am a new user and i am posting very generic issues like this , please let me know if i am not eligible for this this forum and suggest me a forum where i can clear my all (basic ) questions, But i want to be a member of this very Prestigious forum.
if possible please suggest me some websites from where i can get these information and do not waste your time
It is not a waste of time - but - as with our site, i suspect there is no web site that will have information showing you how you should direct your career.
I believe you will do better by talking with people you know or can meet that already work in the organization(s) you would interview with.
