A setting has obviously changed in my session, as when I paste some text, the cursor no longer goes to the end of the text, but it remains at the start of the pasted text. I’ve checked the emulator settings, and every time I tick the ‘Move Cursor after paste’ box, it makes no difference, and the box is unticked when I check it again anyway. I’ve asked a couple of other people, and they have the box unchecked, but their cursor goes to the end of the text after the paste anyway…..is there a setting for this?
thanks |

Hello Brian,
Not that i know of on the mainframe.
Which terminal emulator are you using?
On my emulator, the cursor remains at the beginning of the pasted data (where it was when i "pasted").
You may need to set to the desired action, save the configuration and re-cycle your emulator. On some it helps to do configuration changes when not logged on. |

I am using reflection, and the cursor after paste is at the end so that I can easily type (*)' or just '.
i will check on monday and see what are my settings. Meanwhile, you could answer Dick's question in case you are using a different emulator than I am.
If you are clicking a box and the next time you look it is not clicked, you are not saving your configuration.
try reading thru the help that comes with your emulator. either pf1 or click on the help menu. |

Hello,
What do you consider "the problem" - having the cursor at the "end" or at the "beginning" or something else?
Did your problem just start happening or has it always been "wrong"?
Keep in mind that what you consider a problem, the folks at HOD may consider a feature.
What happens on your co-workers terminals? |

Hi Dick,
When i Paste a text the cursor is not moving at end of the text.. After pasting still it is in first position.
Why I need it - say example already 10 char string is there. if i paste something(less then 10 char) from the first position again it is tough to find how many char i pasted(overridden) since my cursor is in first position.
if my cursor moves to end of the paste text then i can erase the remaining unwanted char or do what ever i want.
Hope you got my problem?
It is always like this. |

any reason to resurrect a 5 year old topic for a problem that can be solved by cross checking Your emulator configuration/preferences with Your peers!
or by reading the emulator documentation |

Hello,
There may not be one - it may be intended to work this way. Which is why i asked about how your co-workers terminals work?
If you are pasting info on a line and plan on erasing whatever was not "pasted", you could do the erase-eol Before pasting. . . |

Since it is not working, i'm doing that way only(erasing all and pasting it). but in some cases while editing the JCL I don't want to erase all the things.. after the pasting the text i may delete few letter and proceed with remaining text.
For all my co workers it is not working.. But i felt it will be good if i have that option |

In Rumba terminal s/w, we can achieve this by the following menu option-
Options> Edit> Parsing> Select "Move cursor after paste".
Make sure you save the profile settings, so that next time you open terminal s/w it will have the setting you changed.
I hope other terminal softwares should be similar settings. |

Hello,
Keep in mind that all of these terminal emulators are trying to act like the original 3270. The 3270 did not have "paste" so everything was at the start of a field.
The "sursor at end" is a Windows feature and a 3270 emulator may or may not do what everyone wants. |

With IBM's Host-On-Demand, there is a conflict.
If you choose "DOC Mode", the cursor moves to the end of the pasted data.
Unselect it and the cursor remains at the start of the pasted data.
The issue is this;
When "DOC Mode" is selected, the paste wraps to the first enterable position on the 3270 screen (this is, in most cases in ISPF, the sequence numbers).
Shut off "DOC Mode" and the data pastes as would pasting into a .txt file on your PC -- across and down from the cursor position.
Other emulators handle this effectively. Not IBM's, even after reporting the defect (IMHO).
If someone knows where I have erred, please, let me know. |
