Hi,

I need to move an existing Db2 Installation to a new HLQ. (DSN1110.** -> DSN1210.**)
Since there are many VSAM datasets, active (in-use) Linklist Datasets, APF authorized datasets and many internal references to the old HLQ, I wonder whats the easiest procedure to get it done.

I could make a full copy of every dataset to the new HLQ and rerun nearly every installation job, so like a full installation.
I could also run the Db2-Generation in mode MIGRATE with the very same code base just another HLQ and just run the migration jobs (But I never did such before).

Since I don't want to do any experiment, which way would you recommend me?

Best regards,

Is this a time constrained process, i.e. does it have to be completed within a fixed time period? Why do you need to do this in the first place, it seem quite extreme?

It is not a time constrained process.
It is also not a really important system - but is in use.

As part of my training I installed a Db2 V11.1 and then migrated to version V12.1.
Here I made the mistake not to pay attention to the correct HLQ, while it was correctly selected for version 11 it is wrong for version 12.

Now there would be the possibility to inform the customer, to delete everything and to set up everything correctly again, or to correct the error somehow.

I also know that I could have installed version 12 directly, but the goal was to do this with a migration

Quick google leads to this rabbit hole at the below link. Depending on the number of datasets affected it could be a very lengthy process.

If you have something like Rocket software's VCR for DB2 or some equivalent it makes it easier.

Thank you for this. So I will make just a second installation, that will do it ;-)
