Hello,
Please start over and ask a question. If anyone posts a reply before you actually ask something, it will just be a wild guess on their part. Keep in miknd that you know exactly what yoj are asking, but we do not.
To which "DATACOMM" do you refer?
What do you need to do?
What is not working as you want?
Are any of my questions even close to what you are asking? |

Hello,
Are you asking about CA-Datacom/DB?
If so, what do you want to know (i've supported Datacom/DB/DD/DQ, IDEAL, and many related tools/products for over 20 years).
What do you mean by "concept of"? |

hi,
yes i am asking about CA-Datacom/DB. i have been using it in my project, but want to know it in detail. like , why do we use Datacom over DB or, what is URT or how it functions? i mean it would be beneficial if you can post some detail document on Datacom.
Thanks in advance!! |

Hello,
The best source of info that i know of is the manuals which are downloadable from the CA Support web site.
Your questions cover far more material than could be properly covered in the forums. I'd suggest you find your CA site-id (your dba or system support will know your site id) and create an account with CA Support. Once you have downloaded the Datacom documentation (and maybe IDEAL doc), study and post any questions you have back here. I will try to provide some short answers to clear confusion, but the full info is in the documentation.
For the full reason your organizatoin uses Datacom over other database products, you should talk with the people who make software decisions/acquisitions. There are many reasons an organization chooses on one product over another and that is know within your organization.
One reason Datacom is preferred by many dbas and system support people is ease of use and performance. I've been called in to help many projects move their system from vsam, DB2, Oracle, and other data management tools for performance reasons. Datacom performs very
well. Do keep in mind that most software acquisitions are not based on performance issues. . . .
A URT is a User Requirements Table and describes which tables will be accessed by this URT and how they will be accessed (read only, update, etc).
If you go to the CA site and look at the pages for Datacom, there is general information. |
