Our IBM mainframe system is running at z/OS V1.4 level. We had installed new DASDs in our ESS storage server recently. And we need to change our IODF to accommodate this change. The change is creating a new LPAR to access the new DASDs.
After updating the IODF, generating the new production IODF, creating a new IOCDS, POR, I tried to "vary xxxx, online" one of those new DASDs in an existing LPAR. However, it displayed the following error message:
IEE313I XXXX Unit Ref. Invalid
What's wrong ? |

Hello,
Have you looked at the info for this message in the "MVS System Messages" manual linked to via the "Manuals" link at the top of the page (vol 4 has this series of messages, i believe)?
There are several causes and one of these may be your problem. |

I have already consulted the relevant manual. But the device I want to turn online is a disk device. Not related to console or tape devices. There should be no RACF related settings done on disk access restriction on the LPAR that I want to online the new disk. |

Hello,
If i'm not mistaken, one of the ways to get this error is to issue a console command from a device that is not authorized for that command.
Have someone issue the command from the master console and see if you get the same message or something else happens. |

I could solve this problem. The cause was....during IPL, the last two characters of 'Load Parameter' did not match the correct LOADxx. After correcting this and re-IPL, I can vary online all the new DASDs installed. |
