VSAM Open During Copy-Excessive EXCP Count

In ADRDSSU Copy rename of VSAM dataset, can EXCP count impacted if the file is open during COPY.
Just curious as when VSAM file is closed EXCP of the job is 3, and when the file is open during copy and EXCP count is 4503.
