Sharepoint to mainframe

Can someone please let know if there exists a way to get and put data direct from Sharepoint to mainframe.

Long time ago, we uploaded documents from Mainframe to SharePoint by sending the document as email to a specific SharePoint email. Once sent, the attached document would be available in SharePoint. I have no idea how it works on SharePoint side, googling leads to this link which sharepoint.rackspace.com/sharepoint-2013-how-to-enable-incoming-email-on-a-document-library
