Zowe was announced at SHARE in St. Louis 08/14/2018. I'm convince this will be the face of the mainframe in the very near future. I urge anyone interested in the future of the mainframe to check it out.

That depends and what Zowe is or will become isn't known really. It's a platform that's open source. I expect many people to be using it for many things in the relatively near future.
Based on the demos I saw and the speakers I heard, it's not a replacement but some places could use Zowe now for much of what they use idz for now.
In my opinion, right now Zowe is something for people to explore for how it might fit into your work flow. Assuming you're the kind of place/person who likes tinker.
Otherwise, I expect you'll be introduced to Zowe relatively soon in the form of products you buy which are based on Zowe. |

There is a push to use IDz here.
I see ZOWE is mainly backed by IBM and CA as per
"Zowe Leadership Committee".
There are now a lot of buzz words out like Rest API, Mirco services, Z/OS connect, etc. |

My prediction is this will change as people start playing around with it and developers build on the platform.
But made that observation as well. Being open source the community can take it where it will. I think it represents a paradigm change that the community will run with. That being said I'm curious how the governance will evolve. |
