I never realized this before. It seems like hole in the design. When you issue the SF line command against a data set alias, you get this message:

| ISRU006 Not real data set name - The selected option cannot process an alias data set name. |
but the message explanation only mentions renaming and deleting not being allowed.
It seems like a simple design change. Please vote for this RFE:
