Hello chenchi,

Spanned records can be spanned over control intervals.Generally big records which need more than one control interval space are declared as spanned. So just suppose if one spanned record occupies one control interval and half of another CI,then the remaining space in that can't be used for any other purpose. So if any spanned or normal record come for insertion CI split has to be taken place.

Did I answer your question?

Thanks,
Anu
