hi,

Can anyone help me out on how to select a record layout while browsing a dataset.

I have a file and it has 3 record layouts (REDEFINEs). My problem is how to select a related record layout while browsing the file.

Thanks in advance.

You MIGHT have to create a VIEW/XREF to allow it to work. That's how we did it for production files. You make an XREF using the File-Aid panels, and you can tell it when to use a given redef based on the content of a field (like a record type indicator)

Then, when you browse/edit the file, it picks the correct redef based on the value of that field in each record.

You can TRY to use the 'USE' primary command, but I can't remember if that is what you need.
