I always thought that the Signature from ones Profile would be displayed with all postings that one has made.

As a rip-roaring joke I changed my signature, for a few minutes, to Chump. I looked. No difference. I changed "always add signature" (something like that) to Yes. Still no difference to the existing post.

I have just discovered that posts I have made since then do have Chump in the signature. Whilst the irony is boundless, is this new behaviour, or because I had no signature (for quite a while) does that explain the Chump/no Chump appearance of my posts?

EDIT: I changed the Attach Signature in my profile, not the post by doing an Edit. Oh, well :-)

Hello Bill,

the irony :-)

As far as I can see, all of your posts from
www.ibmmainframes.com/viewtopic.php?p=265159&highlight=#265159

to

www.ibmmainframes.com/viewtopic.php?p=316676&highlight=#316676

at the end of it.

I think the signature just gets picked from the "profile" and gets attached to all the posts that the user has done so far.

Yup, the signature presentation is dynamic rather than storing it in every post.

Those posts have "Attach signature (signatures can be changed in profile)" option unticked. This is the default post value unless you have used the 'quick reply' box or selected the 'always add signature' profile option.

Thanks very much. I didn't know that.

Now I can ditch the Chump.

EDIT: You can turn them on and off with an Edit for an individual post...
