Hi,

I need to come up with a list of users who edited a particular PDS. I am aware of how to do this from SMF.

But need clarity on one situation.
Suppose there is a PDS, and I have only read access to the members in the PDS.

1) From ISPF, I go into the PDS and put "E" infront of a member, it allows me inside the member in edit mode.
2) I do some editing in a PDS member and then I type in SAVE.
3) RACF says "you don't have access to edit this dataset" and I type CANCEL to come out of it.

In this scenario, Will there be a SMF 15(Output Data Set Activity) record generated?
I was able to open the member in edit mode(output mode) but did not actually do any editing.

I could certainly check it by editing a dataset and checking SMF tomorrow, but I may not cover all the possibilities in which SMF 15 is generated when there was not actual change done to the member.

Could you please let me know your thought on this. I also have option to use type 42 type as well.

Thanks & Regards,

You thought of icon_wink.gif

ISPF does not open in output mode until You tell to save
that' the reason You got the security violation at SAVE time

Nice :-) Thanks that makes sense.

Now I can peacefully report the users editing the dataset, without worrying that I may point out a innocent user putting an "E" instead of V or B.
