The very first link got from the URL provided above has a working Synctool JOIN.
ibmmainframes.com/about47092.html
Unfortunately, there is NO Synctool manual. |

Hi,
DFSORT is an IBM product and DFSORT/DFSORT's ICETOOL is well documented. But Syncsort's equivalent product SYNCTOOL does not have a formal documentation.
The syntax/keywords found in the ICETOOL section of the DFSORT programming guide is intended for use by those who have DFSORT installed at their site. The same control statements cannot be expected to work well with Syncsort's SYNCTOOL. |

Hello,
Currently, the best documentation available for Synctool is the ICETOOL documentation.
However there are documented features in ICETOOL that are NOT available in Synctool.

No, this is not correct. |

Pandora-Box,
You of all the people shouldn't be issuing such blatant statements. DFSORT's ICETOOL is a fully documented, fully supported feature of DFSORT. It has been a part of DFSORT since DFSORT Release 11.1 which became available in February, 1991. So DFSORT's ICETOOL has been available and official for over 22 years now! Syncsort's SYNCTOOL only has a subset of the functions available with DFSORT's ICETOOL and is an unsupported/undocumented utility from syncsort. |

For all the nonsense going on, no-one has question the TS about their requirement for a "join synctool" example.
JOINKEYS is part of SORT. Yes, it can appear in a "CNTL" file for a SyncTool operator, but we have no evidence that that is what is actually wanted.
Just as whatever "load" SyncSort provides is "aliased" to SORT (highly likely), so whatever "load" is supplied for SyncTool is often "aliased" to ICETOOL.
Causes a lot of confusion amongst people who don't know which product they are using, but makes "migration" easier. |
