the ones that show up as 'urgent' and have a non-business email address, are they legitimate?
The topic is always locked immediately.
It seems like a real recruiter would have an address besides yahoo or gmail.
Is there an industry over there where people get referral bonuses for recommending walk in candidates or something? |

They are very likely "free-lance" recruiters, who get paid so many rupees for every CV (or hundred CVs) that they turn over to an outsourcer, with a bonus if a candidate is hired. |

Hi Ed,
We also lock any job postings as there needs to be no dialog. The poster provides contact info.
Personally, i'd never reply to a "public/general" e-addr when looking.
I don't know about these days, but years ago (the gold rush for contracting) one could make money referring someone to a recruiter. I only ever got $ when the person was hired, not just for the referral. Payment was either a flat rate after the person worked for some specified amount of time or some % of the billing rate for as long as the person worked that contract.

There are also some leech firms who themselves hire the job seeker and lease that person to companies, where there is a job opening as contract worker.
And get big commission just being middlemen.
There are also scam firms who say "I would get you a job, or let you know the interview location and timings" just pay me XXXX rupees upfront. |

Yes, if the candidate joins in. There are many I know of, however, I would not like to name them.
Also, sometimes firm posts Internal Job Postings (IJPs), (that are open to outside candidates also) -- which are disclosed to the existing man-power of the firm, in the hope, that they (The Firm) don't need to pay the "hiring agencies" a handsome amount to recruit a person. It is usually assumed, if someone is referred by someone-already-working-in-your-firm, the referral(s) is a "legitimate" candidate, provided s/he qualifies for the Job. In such a case, usually, people don't want to flood their office e-mail IDs and share the yahoo or gmail IDs rather.
On the other hand, "urgent" is just to grab the attention, as far as I can make out of it. |

Does that apply to other posts on this board? |

Yup, often a thinly disguised request to have someone do the work for them . . .
