Deleting an IMS Segment

Question - When I issue a DLET call to delete a dependent segment, does the Prefix and Data portion of the segment (both) get deleted ? or the Prefix part that contains the Delete byte remain physically present in the file to indicate the deletion of the Data part of the segment ?

Inserting an IMS Segment

Question - When I insert an IMS segment, does the Prefix and Data portion (both) get inserted into an available freespace or only the Data portion is inserted and the Prefix portion is updated ?

Partitioning of Databases

Question - How do I identify whether an IMS database is partitioned other than searching for the prefix "P" with HIDAM or HDAM in the DBD ? Does partitioning create separate physical files ?

Partitioning does create separate physical files. I don't know if the naming convention here the normal standard or if it's left to the client to pick one.

I've never heard of prefix/data connected with IMS. That sound more like IDMS or something like that. I know an application can't access the different pieces. You delete a segment, it's gone. You insert one and it's there.

Granted, I have shallow experience with IMS, but that's new to me.

Quite apart from it being a bad idea to solicit responses from named individuals, it is an even worse idea if the solicited haven't made a posting for nearly five years.
