Hi,
I am doing coresspondence B.Tech in ECE. I have to submit the project as part of my final year course. I want to submit mainframe related project instead of Electronics as I am curently working in mainframes technology.
Can you please suggest me some of the good projects where I can work on JCL,VSAM,COBOL and DB2. So that I can learn something new in mainframes. Thanks in advance. |

I doubt that you can get such a Project for some university-course in India.
One possible approach might be of writing some assembler-program using 8085/86 or 386 micro-processors. But if you're doing your degree through correspondence course, getting 8085/86 for programming might be a deal.
Do you have some rough idea of what would you like to show as a Project, when you talk about creating a project using JCL,VSAM,COBOL and DB2? |

Hi Anuj,
Thanks for your suggestions. Yeah, getting 8085 program kit will be very difficult. But,it would be the best option instead of Mainframes proj.
That's what I am really thinking about. I am not getting any idea about project which works on JCL,VSAm,COBOL and DB2. |

You're welcome.
As you're already working, suggest you talk to someone at your shop, who have a listening ear, and tell about your wish. They might not allow you to use the Mainframes resoureces you're currently using but they might allow an access to their training facility. Where you might make use of the simulators in use.
On a personal note, for a degree course, choosing a(n) z/OS related project in 2012 might not impress the invigilator; worse, to start with, the rather-habitual-public-of-toys'-computer won't understand your project at all. I can't think of much on this, may be write something like "PC/370 to z390 Mainframe Assembler Emulation" by Don Higgins. OR try to solve the problems listed here in assembler language: z390.sourceforge.net/z390_Mainframe_Assemble_Coding_Contest.htm#Current Problem Category Index (search for "Current Problem Category Index"). |
