what' s wrong with using ADRDSSU aka DFDSS or IDCAMS
speak to Your support and/or read Yourself the FileAid manuals
the question is not even related to COBOL |

Hello,

If file-aid is available on your system, the documentation is available also. . .
You might also look at the online help.
Typically, file-aid is not used for this type of backup (or any production backup for that matter).
If you don't want to use IDCAMS try ADRDSSU (aka DFDSS).
Also, it would be best to talk with the storage management people - there may be a standard that is to be used. . . |

As others have said when you talk about VSAM - usually preferred way of taking back-up is ADRDSSU or IDCAMS. As they are supplied by IBM. File-Aid is a third party-tool and not every shop has it.

If that's your preffered way of doing it, you can also generate a batch-file-aid job for it. |
