Hi All,
I have 5 yr 7 months exp in mainfranme technologies. Worked on jcl, cobol, db2,cics,vsam.
I am very much interested in doing technical work. to work on mainframe is my passion.
I want to pursue my career in technical side rather then a mangemant side(resource management , project management and etc. managments).
I know most of us may say that coding , unit testing are the Fresher’s work I agree , but still I don’t want to leave that touch.
My question is how should I plan my career and which position(desgnation, role) would be betetr for me so that I can be a technical expert with a good value in a organization as I said. |

Then don't!
Look at the questions on this board to realize that IT outsourcing is infested by "freshers" who -- to be charitable -- don't belong anywhere near a mainframe. The world -- the IT world, anyway -- is saved by the fact that the systems that we wrote decades are stable and working, and don't need more than the occasional superficial tweak.. However, the day will come when a major data center goes down, and the current generation of software engineers stand around staring at each other in helpless horror. That's when actual experience and ability will come into play...at about a lakh of rupees per day. |

Perhaps quality assurance / testing? Those teams have to set up test data and automate the testing as much as possible. They are usually divided up into business folks and technical folks. You would be basically the tech support for a small group of business analysts. |
