Can anybody please let me know what is a Green Screen environment in mainframes. I heard its an IDE/GUI based application through which mainframes can be accessed. Please correct me if I am wrong. |

Starting in 1972 the original 3270 terminals were the primary way to access the mainframe. The 3270 terminal was a CRT with black background and green characters -- hence the term "green screen". The terminal displayed whatever was sent from the mainframe, fields could be typed into, some fields would not allow typing into them, and only when an attention key (such as enter, clear, or a function key) was hit would the data on the screen be sent to the mainframe to be processed.
Either you completely misunderstood the term "green screen" or someone has developed a very ironically named IDE/GUI since IDE and GUI are the complete opposite of the original "green screen". |

Most 3270 terminal emulators are Windows applications that provide the functionality of a real 3270 allowing users to connect to their mainframe by clicking an icon.
This is a software implementation rather than the original 3270 hardware device originally used. |
