How to find a VSAM is eligible to go for multivol or not? I am the storage guy and I thought that the best way to find it is issue listc ent(/) all and then if it shows volume ------- * after another volume-----MVS001 is shown it will show that the VSAM is eligible for multivol as it is showing candidates. I have a customer who does not want his VSAM to go multivolume (he says it becomes tough for him to recover it later on)....Can you advise?

The only reason that I can think of for "it becomes tough to recover later on" is an ill thought out or implemented backup / recovery strategy.

IDCAMS, DFdss, FAVER are all options to perform correct and proper strategies.

You answered that one yourself in the original post. If the catalog does not show secondary volumes available, then it will not use them.
