Hello,
is there anyone, who knows about the SFTP implementation under USS?
it is to be a OpenSSH implementation, but I loooked into the supplied
IBM Manuals for addtitional Tools, but found nothing useful for understanding
the whole mechanisms!
Does anybody know any manual that descriobes and explains, how the
OpenSSH works in general, therefore I could use it properly on the
z/OS?
Please help, the "official IBM manual" about that topic I could not understand,
because I am not familiar yet with the use of SFTP. Therefore I want to
understand all prerequisits, components, dataflow aso. for this feature.
This would enhance our security situation...
thanks,

Suggest you invest sufficient time to become familiar/comfortable with sftp before trying to move forward. Kind of like flying an airplane. You don't just climb in the plane, start the engine and fly (even if you got it off the gorund, you might not be able to land).

If you cannot understand the documentation, trying to move forward is premature. You did not mention which "official IBM manual" you looked at, but this one reads fairly straightforward. It also has links to other info.

Most of what you need will not come in the form of a forum reply. . . |

| Did you Google "openssh"? You can find all sorts of information about open ssh including FAQs (3,190,000 page hits according to my attempt). Once you've digested a few of the web sites, then you can try the IBM documentation again. |

Hy guys,
I do not want to fly any airplane, but I know what it is for... therefore I would use any flying instructions manual or something else of this kind...
it's now the same with SFTP in USS....
anyway I was looking of some sort of help...
how to use google or any other search engines, was not my question,
and referring to the same odd ibm manual by link, which i am thankful
for, was it also not. (therefore I read this already, but bääääääh)
I know most people in this forum ask before informing themselves first,
but I ask, if I cannot help myself anymore and i cannot find any distiguished
person which can give me the appropriate information about my problem.
I will look for some more infos on openssh,
might be that someone knows openssh in detail, for I could ask detailed
questions...
thanks to all for reply...

If you did the Google search, you can find www.openssh.com which tells you quite a lot about openssh, including how it works in general.

You need to start by understanding openssh before you attempt to understand SFTP. The z/OS Ported Tools will need to be installed at your site by a systems programmer. Once this is done, the systems programmer can set up and customize openssh which will then allow you to set up and customize SFTP.
However, you must first read and understand the manuals IBM provides since they give the details on how to do what you want. If you come up with specific questions, ask them here -- but don't expect us to set up your site for you. |

Hy there,
OK i gonna thru the openssh link as well...
but nethertheless I don't expect any solution, it just would have been
interesting, if this is a nice feature on z/OS only or if someone really
uses this and how it was implemented by him. sharing experience would affect me a lot, therefore i could profit from...
if needed i would come up with more specific questions,
thanks to all for reply
