This topic is discussed earlier. Make search on keywords like 'DISCONNECT' 'LOGOUT'.

Why do you want to keep Mainframe session idle for more than 5 mins?

Maybe my fingers were too fast in moving the topic..
rereading it is not at all clear to the environment active

at a first glance I had tought the T/S was referring to ibmmainframes sessions icon_redface.gif

once the environment has been clarified by the T/S I will move the topic to the appropriate forum

There is no good reason for you to tie up resources while you wait. . .

Hello,

To repeat:
Quote:

Just because you might automate a bad thing is no reason to do so.

/rant on
It is simply inconsiderate and wastes resources. If your session will wait for 5, 10, 30 minutes, why should you tie up resources? A better choice would be to log off and not wait for the time-out online. If your work was so important that you should never be inconvenienced, your id would be defined so that it would never time-out. Obviously, the people who manage the system do not share your opinion and so, you get timed out.

Well,

I agree with Dick, I know this can be done but never used for personal use.

When You are logged on to Mainframes Your session "runs" as a JOB in the MVS console & it does need resources to keep Your session "alive". If it gets disconnected in five minutes ..Well, be little patient & log-in again.

I agree that there should be a timeout limit, but 5 minutes seems too short.

Hi,

Even at my shop it's nearly five minutes or less... I've got one query now, is there any way using which I can know how much "idle period" is provided to my RACF ID, without approaching to System Guys.
