The file is too big to be opened in edit mode.

When you logon to TSO do you see a field marked size. Try increasing it, but many sites do restrict the changing of this field and apply a default even if it is changed.

Hi,

if the file is big enough then it automatically opens in browse mode even we use V or E mode. If u want do changes in certain records means copy those records to some other temp file using SORT or OEM option and do the changes, if u need to do changes in whole file means use SORT utility with inrec and outrec fileds and do the changes. Hope this will help U.

Hi,
When the file big it will open in browse mode only. It won't allow to open in edit mode. If you want to edit any data from that, better way you copy that data to another file by sort conditioning.

Gautaum big file means I don't know it's size how big it will be, but it may contain certain lakcs of records.

If I am wrong any where please correct me .....

Thanks & Regards

This is specific to your site and/or your logon id.

Quote:
When you logon to TSO do you see a field marked size.
This field will give you the size and if you have trouble fiding it, you could talk with your system support people for the limit.

Hi,

Just to add some more spice to the topic, you can use FileAid(Tool) to edit the records (even it has got the max file size).

I imagine you are not going to edit all the records, you can squeeze out the required data from the original file using condition and do your changes. ( if you do not want to replicate data by copying the original data using sort/copy you can use the above option).

Hope this helps you out in some means.

the how big depends on how the system was setup

the region You see at logon id the size below the line < 16MB
for editing the memory/storage will be obtained above the line,

it all depends on the limit Your system programmers have defined for the storage above the LINE

You should be able to see in the logon screen ( size parameter )

or from sdsf, da, s on Your tso userid,
You should see something like ...
Code:
1 //ENRICO  JOB 'H001',REGION=4096K
2 //$$TSO1   EXEC $$TSO1

The bigger question is how much REGION are you allowed above 16 Mb? The default is 32Mb but it may be reduced via system exit.

I vaguely recall a TSO command to display the TSO session REGION limits, above and below. Anyone know of this?

Yes, syam, that's it. Thanks!

It appears you get the full 32Mb "above the line" but other sites may limit this.
