Hi All
I suggest that i would be helpful if there is a general forum in this group to post our queries regarding other IT informations, from which we can ask query & will get good response from the IBM Forum members, other then mainframes.
Since we have lots of expertised member in our IBM - Mainframes, they can guide the needy
For example i have no info about the website which contains some referrence books for my MCA course. Iam not able to ask for help regarding this in this forum. So i feel that it would be helpful if there is a section available for asking other IT related queries.
Thanks in anticipation. Kindly reply
Kind Regards

| 'FAQ & Requests' and 'Off Topics' are good places to post your requests |

Regardless of the what the topic is about, it still needs to relate to specific mainframe technical issues, or to general information topics concerning the mainframe that may be of value to the entire community.
Other topics are probably better posted to other Forums that deal more exclusively with those types of topics. |

Hello,
Personally, i think we can respond to things that are not 100% mainframe. Many of the technical questions that come directly to me (e-mail, phone, etc) from clients and former co-workers are related to both a mainframe process and some win-based or unix process. There is a growing need to process and transfer data between platforms.
Now that lots of places have realized there is an incredible amount of data on their mainframe databases and they can get at selected bits of it in realtime, they want to connect to it and get the info for "the spreadsheet" or whatever.
In some of our forums and elsewhere, people have been stymied by their attempt to get "some data" uploaded or downloaded. Actually sending/receiving is rather trivial, but sending/receiving something usable on the target causes many false starts. Again, my preference is to try to help and not send them away.
Our "Off Topics" list of subjects mentions that non-mainframe topics should be posted there. We could route these topics from forums where they do not fit. I would think that one end or the other of the questions should involve a mainframe directly (for example, i don't think we want
to take on questions that are purely Windows/UNIX and could lock/delete them).
Those of us who would like participate could provide answers to questions we had experience with or were interested in. Those who did not want to spend time with these topics might not spend much time in "Off Topics".
Just thoughts - what do others think? |

Why don't you try it in 'IT News & Downloads' Forum?

This is a personal question and it will fit in 'Requests or Off Topics' Forum than 'IT News' Forum. |
