I want to take backups of some 15-16 datasets(PDS & PS) in their respective datasets by just specifying the highest level qualifier.
For example: By specifying AVINASH.* , all the datasets having this highest level qualifier should be backed up in thier respective backup datasets(created at runtime). Please help me out. I have used the ADRDSSU utility but it doesn't working on my installation.

If you're not going to use ADRDSSU, then you probably need to write your own process. It seems like a relatively trivial and painless task:

1. You'll have to figure out what program or utility you're going to use to do the backups (IEBGENER, SORT, IDCAMS, PKZIP, IEBCOPY, FAVER, XRC, etc.).

2. Create a list of all the datasets that qualify with the specified high-level qualifier.

3. Build the utility control statements as necessary. You may also have to build JCL.

4. Submit your process and watch it go!

What does this

mean?

Does it abend or do you get a jcl error or are the control statements incorrect or ? ? ?

Please post the jcl/control statements you used as well as the output.

We'll be able to help then.

Seems to me that ADRDSSU is the type of utility that a sysprog would WANT to lock down. I would think that it could be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

More specifically, though, why aren't these people going to their storage administrators and discussing these issues with them?

In the past day or so, there have been several threads requiring HLQ backups without ADRDSSU from people whose location is Noida.

Draw your own conclusions.... icon_rolleyes.gif

Same as last weeks' questions concerning Abend resolution? icon_wink.gif

(They'll be banned if I discover that they're students or if they're somehow working together).

Dick,

I have always been a bit of a "chain puller", gotten my face punched for it a number of times icon_cry.gif , and I do not give a darn.

Without humor, what's the point.... icon_lol.gif

superk, without any input from me, picked his avatars. I don't know if there is something Freudian there icon_biggrin.gif , but I believe we all make choices and live with them, right or wrong, good or bed, we all live with our choices.

Soon, I'll continue my vegestative state into some avatars, but my choices will be mine.

BTW, the Danger - Will Thompson - Danger" was great! icon_lol.gif

But, you kinda realize that a kid who grew up with Don Rickles as his hero, would get the rough edge of a lot of people while growing up.... icon_wink.gif
