GDG Generations Limit

Hello, can anybody please tell me the maximum limit for a GDG generation. As per the materials available it is 255. But when I have created a new gdg with NOEMPTY, NOSCRATCH option it created more than 258 generations without deleting the previous generations. And all the generations are catalogued. So please help!.

Yes, You can create around 1000s of generations for a GDG Index. But you can access only the first 255 generations.
