SAS (www.sas.com) started life as the product "Statistical Analysis Software". The company has, of course, grown over the years to become one of the largest software development companies in the world.

I often refer to SAS as the non-programmer's programming language, as you do see it used quite frequently by engineers, user's, operators, security analysts, etc.

SAS has grown over the years to become almost a standard for report generation and data integration. There are many software products that can generate output data in native SAS-dataset format. SAS is also heavily used, usually partnered with CA's MICS product, to process SMF records and to generate reporting on system usage, chargebacks, capacity planning, corporate reporting, etc.
