Hi,
Try to filter out records which are not relevent to you.
File aid has option 'Q' to do this
Thanks,
Parikshit. |

I guess file-aid was designed for working with optimum efficiency by working on a limited chunk of data. With its efficiency and limited buffer space, I'm afraid you have to select records thru quick option; or go for one-record-after-another approach, if you don't have a common identifier. Is there something preventing you from going for quick option?

Bharani. |

I dont understand why u should open u r file in the edit mode to make u r changes.
one suggestion is that when u have large volumes if data it is always better for u to submit it as a job rather than using the other methods.
mention what u want to change in u r sysin card .it should run fine givivng u what u want. |

Friends,
I had faced the same problem in my work.
I copied 50 records of variable length to a PS.
With some records it was working fine, but in some cases it is substituting browse mode. So I had to copy less records to make my work done.
I guess the Problem is not with the File AID.
It may be due to less size(cylenders) allocated to the dataset where we want to copy huge information.
I am trying to find the solution. Please try to allocate more space for ur datasets.
Regards,
Sachin |

This may not work in certain cases......e.g my file may contain 200 records, and i have to remove duplicate records(if exists any). |

As said the problem is because of the insufficient memory size. One solution to this is
1) Split the file in to two and do the necessary edit changes
2) Merge or concatenate two files in to a single file.
I used SORT jcl to split the file in to two and made the changes to one of the file and concatenated two file in to one single file using IEBGENER. |

Hi,
when u have only 200 records the file will surely open in the edit mode and u could use tools like fileaid
but some production data would be so large that the system would automatically open in the browse mode
