Hi All,

I am performing a test(system testing) that involves comparision of
several files and each one of them containing records upto 5000. I am
performing a file comparision using JCL batch program that invokes FILE - AID.

The comparision is between the production and test data. This gave me a
whooping 6500(report.JPG) changes in a particular file. Now I have to look into each
one of these changes and justify them.

The FILE AID report screen shot that is generated is attached along with
this post. This report(details.JPG) contains data that is displayed record wise and its
indeed difficult to figure out the exact field of the copybook that is involved.

I just wanted to know if there is a way out to make this report more
explanatory ie, giving the field name where the change has occured or
something similar to this. Any changes in the JCL that is being used here might result
in a detailed report. Please help me out.

I would appreciate if you could
suggest me on simplifying this tidious task of system testing.

Thanks and Regards,
Raveendra.

Hi raveendra,

1)Try using COMPAREX tool. I think that should work well for your requirement.

2) Try using the COMPARE IT Windows sofware on your PC.

I am attaching the software. Try with that and just let me know whether it works or not.

Hi iKnow !!!

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I would raise a ticket to suggest my tech leads to consider using Comparex
but I'm not sure about their response. We have been using FILE-AID for quite sometime now,
but I was looking to explore certain features of FILE-AID(option F.10) that could prove helpful.

As we provide the copybooks along with the files, I was wondering if we could somehow manage to get the
field names of the changed records in the final report.

As I see it a few changes in the sysin card that we supply to the compare JCL (invoking FILE-AID) should do this.

Could you please throw some light on this.

Thanks and Regards,
Raveendra.
