Your search of the forum before posting found what? Did you find this topic "Migrating to Micro Focus Environment"? You should have - just by entering microfocus in the search box. |

Well, yes . . .
What does Mainframe to Microfocus mean for this question. Microfocus is a compiler (with an extended set of developer tools). It is not a new platform.
If you (or they) have no experience with something like this, best bring in someone who does. . . |

How is your data stored? IMS, DB2, VSAM???
MicroFocus IMS emulation makes everything HIDAM. (or PHIDAM), so there are no randomized databases.
There are a slew of compiler options that you need to be mindful of. You'll need to sit down and go over what your current mainframe standards are for those, then match them with Microfocus. It's not 1-to-1.
Microfocus does some initializations differently too. We hit a problem where an assembler subroutine was getting weird results, and it was because the mainframe did NOT set something to zero at program start, but MicroFocus did.
Over all, I absolutely LOVE my Mainframe Express. I can write code and test it so much faster than the mainframe environment., plus I can reset everything myself if I hose up a database. However, there is a LOT of set up to get there. |
