What kind of research have you done? What have you learned?
What is the reason for the question - i.e. what do you really want to learn?
Simply said both are database products from 2 separate vendors. . . (IBM and Computer Associates). |

Basically I want to know the difference between the database types. I know that IDMS is network database. What is IMS type. and which is advantageous to use.. |

Opinions vary. . . The CA material describes IDMS as relational. . .
IMS is sometimes called heirarchial and sometimes networked.
IMHO, it doesn't matter what it is called. . .

Entire organizations or specific large undertakings use some specific database product. The developer rarely gets to choose which database will be used for a project.

For someone to really be helpful, you need to ask something less generic. Your question is very close to questions asked of students as classwork rather than people who use databases for a living. . . |
