I was installing a Hiper Apar PK12992.
My smpe version is not compatible with the Hiper Apars..
Can any one through some light on what a HIPER APAR actually is and how does it degrades the system performance when installed!! |

Your SMPE is backlevel!
when doing the whole ptf/apar mumbo/jumbo the first thing to take care of is to have the LATEST level of SMPE!
( usually PTF/APAR processing is split in two stages, APPLY SMPE maintenance and then apply the rest)

A HYPER defines fixes with an high priority, MANDATORY,
not installing them will keep Your system exposed to damages

looks like You understood things the wrong way,
Apars/ptf are ususally supposed to make things better, not worse |

You may need to apply maintenance to your SMP/E system to upgrade it before you can apply the Hipers. Once that is done, the APAR you are attempting to apply will go on -- if not, you'll need to open a PMR with IBM. |

During the actual SMPE APPLY step the system performance may degrade because SMPE likes to use a lot of processor cycles! This is usually only for a few of minutes. |

Unless you put 400 or so on at a time like I did earlier this year ... the APPLY can run for quite a while in that case! |
