HSM tuning Tips

Dear All,

Mainframe HSM jobs its runing daily so its consuming more CPU time in our system so We are going to tune the HSM job.
Please let us know if anybody having tuning tips...

We need suggestion for which parameter it will reduce the CPU time and if any method we can implement.

Please help me. If you have any doc's please reply back....

Keep in mind that cpu usage is not going to be a tunable parameter on its' own. What you are seeing is due to the amount of work hsm is currently required to do.

Suggest you work with your storage admins to make sure the data is properely allocated so that such a high amount of activity is not necessary. This may be helped by additional dasd or the re-classification of some of the dasd to accomodate the current trends.

First thing is to identify which processes are consuming humungous amounts of CPU, and then identify why. HSM will produce logs and SMF records of everything that it does.

This may not be limited to HSM alone as HSM is controlled by the SMS MGMTCLAS construct.

And are you sure it is CPU time that mention, or perhaps elapsed time is the problem.

There is no "reduce cpu used" parameter. . .
