Hello,

I am working on a project of migrating cobol batch programs to Java. |
Good luck. For most, this has been an exercise in frustration. There are few similaraties between mainframe batch and java anything. . . This is more of an environment issue rather than a cobol issue.

Has anyone ever done such stuff of simuating the Batch environment to Java or any such platforms?? |
Migrating mainframe batch to unix scripts is not too difficult. A unix script is not one for one with jcl, but with a bit of work, the mainframe batch jobs can be converted. Mainframe cobol can convert to unix (we used MicroFocus cobol) with little re-work - it depends on how the mainframe cobol was implemented.
One big issue is moving the data from the mainframe.

And did u ever feel it worth doing in terms of performance of the applications??? |
Nearly never is the decision to move processes from the mainframe to some unix or win-based server based on performance. Many attempts to move large mainframe systems to win-based servers have completely failed. |
