Taken out of context, I'd agree. With the rest of the post, it seems obvious that I really thought it was a funny comment about the requirement being the thing that all programmers would find to be a glowing treasure.

Unless of course, YOU are making a joke that what I said was so obvious.

Hi..I'm the new guy around the block..And people who had already thrown their valuable opinion(and I really mean it)..to start with..my request is to them.. Please don't stop it..it HELPS..and it HELPS A LOT..to at least a guy like me..who started working in an Indian Outsourced IT Company(Please forgive me if I have chosen incorrect adjectives..(either in order or in their meaning..if you know what I mean)..

After joining as a programmer(to be read as a so-called Programmer)..Most of the people told me Mainframe has no future..and you can witness it in my earlier posts..and I felt frustrated..but the moment I started to know the truth..I really like it now..

Now coming back to the original question..Why do you post on this Forum...I would like to quote an example..one month ago I got a requirement where I had to compare two files(Sequential) and do some reformatting of the records in two files..and I went to one of the senior programmer(anyone who has spent more time in Mainframe..even a difference of one seconds is considered Senior Programmer..MIND IT) to ask how can I solve this..and his answer was..write a Pl-I program to compare the files and do the formatting..(for that I did a search for all the records of File1 against every record of File 2,i.e, No of records in File1 multiplied by no of records in File2 operations) and that Program is now in Production....But just now I realized ..that I can do this using a simple SORT..all because of this forum..

I constantly visit this Forum..and sometimes I try to answer..based on my knowledge and I always feel I have learnt something new..that’s my reason..so Please don’t stop..

Sorry for the long reply..but I just felt like saying it..

At one of the shops I had a DBA who had his surname phonetically similar to "kurtz" and when I enquired about it, there was a good story behind it...so was curious, Neeraj.

Have Fun here!

Years ago, I worked with a programmer named John Schmuck (really). I can't imagine the torment he went through, although he dealt with it pretty well....

and things are even worse in a multilingual environment
what are normal <words/acronyms> in a language are Xrated <words/acronyms> in another one

the Federal Insurance Contributions Act tax acronym
was fairly common in the early IBM COBOL training manuals icon_cool.gif
even in the translated version for Italy , very poor reviewing IMO

At one shop - one of my co-worker, named Sandeep, fondly changed his name to Sandy. And the other day in a meeting with Business, one of the client name was Sandy (an English name) -- and to make things worse, we were on phone-conference -- all the time I could hear only, one Sandy is aplogizing to another Sandy! icon_biggrin.gif

In the CICS-CSA DSECT, there's a field/label, where you can test the status of the region. One '88' level (if you will) is named 'CSAXSEX', which equates to "Executing". icon_eek.gif

I guess the IBM'er was a weekend standup-comedian? icon_lol.gif

My surname is an uncommon one, but not a complicated one; five letters, two consonants, three vowels, pronounced about as written (given the caveat that English orthography can be a bit unobvious). Simple, right?

If I had a dollar for every time it has been misspelled or mispronounced, I could have retired long ago.

I agree with Mr. Bill's post (2nd on this thread). I appreciate learning from those who know more than I do or have a better or alternate solution, and I enjoy "paying it forward" when I can.
