But, since we are using DUMP here so first it copy all the mentioned qualifier files and after that it deletes the copied files, which is not cost efficient. |
see the manual for more details

Deleting Unwanted Data Sets
Quote: |
I tried for the same i.e. PARM='TYPRUN=NORUN' . It only select the files. not deleting the files. |
see the manual for more details
Quote: |
TYPRUN=NORUN
For copy, dump, restore, compress, and release operations, only input data set selection is done without actually processing data sets. Printed output for the run indicates the data sets selected. For a defragmentation operation, the initial volume statistics are printed without actually relocating any extents. For a CONVERTV operation, a full report is produced, but no volumes or data sets are actually converted. For CGCREATE operation, only control card syntax checking is done. The task is not processed.

HELLO ALL,
Thanks for your guide lines. I have executed the JCL the results are as I expected. However the ADRDSSU utility select only those files which are available on DASD, if I want to select files which are migrated i.e. which are available on TAPE, then i think ADRDSSU utility will be fail for this.
Please share your thoughts for the same |

Hello,

My requirement is I want to list PS and PDS seperatly form VTOC.
And then delete all PS having starting qualifier XXXXXX.
It would be good if we can do this using JCL only. |

Yes, you said the files to be deleted were on dasd/in the vtoc. . .
Suggest you run a listcat and generate hsm deletes for the unwanted files. |

Hello,
What do you believe you require that is not covered by the info available from the search Expat mentioned? |

Dick,
Looking back over the thread, my code does not differentiate between PS and PDS. Maybe something I'll take a look at when I have some time. |

I have just gone through the topic again, and suddenly we have a problem with migrated datasets.
Let's square up a couple of things here.
1) Are you the original poster with multiple user ids.
- If yes, you only wanted DASD datasets in the original post
- If no, exactly what it is that you want to delete which has been migrated. Is it just datasets or do you want to differentiate between PS and PDS/PDSE.
Unless you tell us exactly what you want, there isn't too much to tell you. |

I am not original poster. I have same query which is send by Original User "Prasanna".
My query is as,
I want to delete only PS file starting from perticular qualifier but there are certain conditions,
1) Delete ALL the PS files which are available on DASD and which are migrated.
2) Apply certain date criteria (i.e Do not delete PS files which are created after 20june-2010).
As suggested by you I have tried by ADRDSSU utility but it delete PS files which are available on DASD only. It won't delete the migrated PS files. |

not our problem
why did You not start a new topic then...
piggybacking on somebody else topic is considered bad manners,
confuses the poster of the original question
and wastes the time of the people helping .
also ...

I am looking for the all cataloged datasets for a particular HLQ. All these datasets are available on DASD. |
in Your original request You never spoke about migrated dataset,
again changing the requirement during the discussion is confusing and distressing for people trying to help
an gives origin to the most natural question ...
why in hell people do not learn to post the complete requirement from the beginning
but maybe they have problem with the neuron buffering services

on how to get the most when asking question |

Quick check on migrated files to find the DSORG
Code: |
//HSMCMDS EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01
//SYSOUT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSTSPRT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSTSIN DD *
HLIST LEVEL(Your_HLQ) BOTH ODS('Your_Output_Dataset') |

I will take care of this point.
Also, I have tried for "HLIST LEVEL(Your_HLQ) BOTH ODS('Your_Output_Dataset')" it 's working fine. Thanks a lot.
So, to get the consolidated list of all PS files I have to use,
1) HLIST for migrated ps files and
2) ADRDSSU for DASD ps files.
and after that by using sort utility on both the output files, I will select only PS files and delete the same.
Can we do same thing by any other way? |

Do You have the ISPF ISMF dialogs available ? |
Pay attention to the above, from Enrico's reply - at one of shops I've been to, I was not authorized to invoke the ISMF panels. I was told that,"You don't belong to storage-team so you don't need that. %%^^&". |
