Hi,

I am currently working on a project where I need to take over an application from another person who has worked on it for 20-30 years. But I have just two weeks time to extract as much info as I can from him.
Please help me as how and for what all topic I should be grilling him on so that I don't miss on any of the important aspects.

Issues that I have identified are (Application involves Brokerage System, and Tech used are Cobol, DB2 and Coolgen majorly):

1. General overview of Business Flow.
2. Overview of Business in terms of data-flow, ie tables used, files used and how they are updated.
3. Overview of Business in terms of Job cycles.
4. List of various Batch and Online programs, and their complexity.
5. Understanding realization of Business by various programs.

Please let me know if I am missing on some aspect that I need to learn. After two weeks I will be wholely responsible for this application.

Thanks

Hi

that be cool to maintance a huge system alone
if you have only a couple of weeks , i think the bizness logic is more important than tech skill , you should focus on the daily job being an admin, you should check the mail list between ex-admit and customer, to understand what is the daily job , and to study the common biz words list from the customer mail, so if you run the system by youself ,at least you can understand what is the costomer's requairment.
anyway your job is keep the system working normally , you can study the db structure and work flow something literally later.making the customer fell comfortable is more important . and you need some lucky , hope the customer will not plan a huge update action after two weeks icon_lol.gif
