I need info about "system IPL"


If you provide answer or book refe or site refe,

I will be happy.


N:B: I found this topic, while searching in the forum,

Under "What is SYSTEM NUCLEUS and SYSGEN in SYSABEND".


But I need more info and would like others to see the Headline. That is what, I open this new topic.

Here is the answer for your query.


IPL - Initial Program Load

Short for initial program load, the process of loading the operating system of a mainframe into the computer's main memory.
IPL is the mainframe equivalent of booting or rebooting a personal computer.

Try to be a little more specific -- are you looking for information about what happens during an IPL? information about what physical steps are required to do an IPL? the meaning of the term "IPL"? something else entirely?

You're not likely to find any books on IPL -- and if you did, they'd be outdated since IBM issues a new release of z/OS every year. You might check out the Share presentations -- there's usually good system information provided in them.

IPL processing is always documented in (manuals) INIT and TUNING GUIDE and INIT and TUNING REFERENCE
