Hi All,
I have one question regarding GDG version number(Vnn). When GDG version will change ? I tried to create 9999(G9999V00) + 1 version but it didn't change, it has started creating versions again as G0001V00.
ex : -
Code: |
SW1234A.GDG.BASE
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G0001V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9991V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9992V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9993V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9994V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9995V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9996V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9997V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9998V00
SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G9999V00 |
If version number will not change then what is use of version number when it can be used, is there any use, if it is not used then why it is there ?
I know manually we can create and change version number from V00 to V01. |

It's been discussed here a couple of times recently. I've never done it. You'll probably never do it. It does not happen automatically. It is there as a version of a generation, used in place of any earlier version. Don't worry about it, you may never even see it. |

A version number other than V00 must be manually created with the fully qualified name (that is, you CANNOT create one by using a relative generation number).
Code: |
// DISP=(,CATLG),DSN=SW1234A.GDG.BASE.G0001V01) |
Different versions are not used much but IBM allows them should the need arise. |

Hello,
What is your concern/interest about Versions (rather than Generations)? |

The intent being to replace a given generation with a corrected version while maintaining its place in the chronology. V00 will no longer be available (or, if you are very sloppy in your correction, V01 will no longer be there when you create V02 - never seen a V02). |
