My manager decided it was time for me to leave my current company. So I will be posting (even) less in the coming weeks while looking for a new customer.
If anyone knows of an opening for a reasonable skilled DB2 DBA in Belgium/Netherlands , drop me a PM. |

Are you a contractor already? If so, which manager decided it was time to quit, the client or your contracting manager? |

yes, I'm a freelancer.
My collegues were all satisfied with my work and disappointed to see me leave, but middlemanagement of my client couldn't handle the fact that I regularly show up late (and some other personal issues). That I stay late, solved stuff from home during my days off, that they only have to pay for the hours I work, are apparantly irrelevant.
My contract manager (or my agent as we call it) couldn't care less, as long as he gets his percentage. |

That's Belgium for you. I was fired on the spot more than three years ago for writing an email (a very polite email) to the the "Secretary General" of the organisation, because my manager felt that I had insulted him by doing so.
Before that I had discovered that they didn't mind people writing PL/I programs with loops using GOTO, were using Enterprise PL/I as if it was the old OS (V2.3.0) compiler using "ARCH(2)" on a z10 system, and using the LE "STORAGE(0,0,0)" option, because a supplier had told him to do so (8 years earlier), causing the CPU usage to go through the roof. Then again, they are tax-payer funded, so who cares.
I was later told that my manager, a typical PHB, only got his job because he was a faithful party member, and not because his IT skills (which were in essence non-existent) |

Ask your agent to refer you to his worst enemy / biggest rival. Right now, he probably doesn't want anything to do with you since he's not getting paid.
By asking him turn you loose, he'll get jealous thinking about your FUTURE earnings. On the other hand, if he thinks you're a liability, he'll be happy to see you go over to the other guy and give you a good recommendation. |

I've got 3 agents looking out for me now. I'm not giving my current agent one more dime, because he was looking for my replacement before I knew i was being terminated. |

I'm back!!
After 6 months vaction, looking for a job and finally jobhunting i 've got a job.
Unfortunately no more DB2 but back to IDMS. Maybe not the best career move. But it is 1.5 miles from my home and the first who was willing to hire.
I won't be following the DB2 forum closely, but I might stop by once in a while.

Good to "see" you.
Congrats!
Even if you'll be working IDMS, we would welcome your DB2 participation

Hi Guy,
Glad you're back.
I just went through a 6-month hiatus (was part of an RIF in late March) and was recently hired in the Atlanta area.
Brutal commute, but I'm glad to be working.
Good luck to everyone....
Regards, |

My turn to look, it seems. I've been notified I'm being laid off before the end of December, so if anyone knows of jobs (particularly near Atlanta), please let me know. |
