Hi ,

This is my first post in IBMMAINFRAMES...

Am facing some problems while initializing the storage group.

After initialization (i.e..ONLINE/OFFLINE) the storage group volumes, the % free space of the storage group in ISPF .6 showing lesser % free(< 99 %) space, but all the volumes inside the same storage group is showing 99% free space.

am facing this issue for last two months only, previously it worked fine.
Appreciate your effort & thanks in advance!!!

Thanks & Regards,
Geeyem

So, what changed two months ago? This could be due to an operating system upgrade, or a change in the allocation of volume data, etc -- but something must have been changed for you to notice a difference.

Hi Robert,

I don't know what has changed in these two months...
we are using this storage group mainly for backup purpose...
once the backedup datasets from the storage group are moved to tape we deleted the datasets and we start the initialization. This is our normal process..

but in recent days, after initialization we are facing this issue...

we are having more than 12 storage groups ,but we are facing in two storage groups..

Thanks in advance

Thanks & Regards,

Well, neither do we. However, since you are on site, and we are not, you have a better chance of finding out than we do.

Hi ,

we didn't upgraded the system during the time,

No datasets are present in the storage group but still showing lesser free space

Any other possibilities to get the 99% free space.

When you first INITIALISE volumes into a Storgrp ISMF does not know what capacity is in there and often shows a meaningless value, but the space is available. Doing some temporary allocations into the pool will sort it out as it forces the SMS DINTERVAL process to look at the volumes. Use VOL=(,,,59) to froce multi-volume allocations, perhaps with a Gauranteed Space Storclas so as many volumes get allocated on as possible. They only need to be small sized files, and can be deleted almost immediately as DINTERVAL is defaulted to 150ms (in SYS1.PARMLIB(IGDSMSxx) )

Hi,

I have faced the similar issue in our setup. Try following and this should work for sure.

1. Alter the storage class from ISMF Panel and make Guaranteed Space parameter as "Y".
Changes to be made for Storage class Name for which you are facing % less space issue.
2. Do SCDS validation and activation
3. Now create test data set (1 track each) on all the volumes
4. Now check % free space on all volumes for that Storage Group (It should show %99)
5. You may delete temp data sets
6. Revert "Guaranteed" space changes

Regards,
Prashant
