Hi.
I've been working on z/OS mainframe for about 9 years and now I'm considering applying for a job, which requires knowledge about AS/400.
Has anyone else made this type of transition earlier? What were your experiences ? How easy/difficult it is to switch from z/OS to AS400?
Thanks. |

Hello,
What kind of work do you do on z/OS? What is the as/400 job? (these do not need posted answers - just your consideration).
My wife was a mainframe programmer/analyst for about 12 years, stayed home for several years after we moved to the island, and then decided to get back into IT and went back to school to learn pc, unix, and as/400.
She was offered a job with a software company that licensed products that ran on the as/400, written in COBOL and rpg. As far as coding was concerned, COBOL on the as/400 was quite similar to what she knew from the mainframe. System support was rather different, but there were specialists for these tasks. |

Just wanted to fathom what I'm jumping into!!
Thanks Dick. |
